You listed Sword Art Online which has a lot of harem and romance, probably the most famous all in recent modern history

This is the hidden content, please
Debatable that it's a harem, but I don't think it was, MC does like one character a lot, but there is moments of romance later..  Good dark anime, check online novels for extra dark and nasty.

  • Slam Dunk
  • Neon Genesis Evangelion (not the new movies)
  • Inuyasha
  • Hellsign
  • Death Note
  • Full Metal Alchemist (history follow the manga for a bit then go freelance)
  • Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood (history strickly follow the one from the manga)
  • Tower of Druaga

I enjoy those above (that are the ones I can remember at the moment) if you where goin to pick I would say go with DEATH NOTE first because the history is just awesome.

I forgot to mention that if you haven't see it there is an ova from Overlord named Pure Pure Pleidas.

Aaaaah the nostalgia kicked me hard with this one. :amazingvani:

Also for sports anime, there are Air Gear and Cyber Formula.

Personally wouldn't recommend Death Note. I just don't like it. Even with its openings stuck in my mind for ever.

Some of the popular recommendations: Elfen Lied (gory), and FLCL (short)

Edit: In order to stay on topic...

  • Persona 3 Movies
  • Another
  • Mirai Nikki
  • Corpse Party
  • Blood+
  • Nanatsu no Taizai

There are actually two animes named Nanatsu no Taiza and Sin: Nanatsu no Taiza, the first one is a shonen the second is yuri, currently watching the second one but I do recommend the first one.

Funny story, I find out about Sin when I saw this figure (which I also want)

Enmusubi no Youko-chan (it's actually Chinanime but good just the same)

Romance (not much, but you'll understand what I mean if you watch it), Comedy, Fantasy about Yo-kai and Monks.  It's really wacky and unpredictable one minute, then serious and meaningful the next (like our chat room!).

Enjoying so much lately, along with DB Super.

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei series - A story about a teacher who want's to die and he's saved by a girl. It turns out he will be a teacher of class full with problematic students. The weirdness, it has plenty of weird stuff, comedy stuff and even some existential stuff.

Cowboy Bebop - kinda old but still looks nice, cool characters, cool action scenes and that space jazz vibes, see you later space cowboy.

Samurai Champloo - Samurai Rap, old but gold like Cowboy Bebop, story about a party of three. One girl who needs help from two samurai, wicked samurai fights in the rythm of rap.

GINTAMA - Oh boy, oh boy, dat a perfect anime. Gintoki, Megane-kun(Shinpachi), Kagura it's a story about daily life of Yorozuya members, episodic anime, plenty of comedy, parodies, sad moments, awesome action, and even

:SugoiDesu:BELIEVE IN MY RECOMMENDATIONS! :SugoiDesu:

Spoiler

I could recommend even more but I have watched plenty of that stuff so I need to sort my memory.

Where to start? Theres a point in ones life where the mass consumption of anime has made them all merge into a jiggly mishmash of big eyes goodness. Most of the "must watch" stuff has been said. With that being said I wont rattle off a big list. I'll just leave the soul crushing recommendation of Clannad. I recently watched and its worth mentioning. Along with it I also enjoyed Kiznaiver and Kokoro Connect for thier sharing of pain. Anyone know of anything else soul crushing to add?

Just a quick edit: anyone here watching Inuyashiki? I was a fan of the weird and dark themes in Gantz and it seems to be just as nuts in Inuyashiki. :D

I'm just gonna be the know-it-all asshole to say this: Akame ga Kill came first! (manga)

Though Kill La Kill IS better.

Yeah I saw Kill La Kill and then Akame ga Kill and it felt like Kill La Kill was older and Akame ga Kill saw that formula and made there own thing out of it but now looking into it the animes aren't even separated by a year...

There is so much to recommend in anime and i am mostly an old school anime watcher but i watch new stuff from time to time, these are some of my recommendations.

Lupin the 3rd, anything with lupin the 3rd really. If you're more into new stuff then watch the 4th season, jigens gravestone or the mine fujiko no ona series, the movie castle of cagliostro is a classic must watch.

Dagger of Kamui. Old ninja anime movie with awsome animation and a kick-ass soundtrack.

Re: Cutie Honey, a shorter take on the cutie honey series with awesome animation by gainax, if you like it then take a look on the 90 series new cutie honey (don't even get close to the cutie honey universe series).

Dirty Pair, watch the series, ovas or movies their all good sci-fi action comedy fun.

Bubble Gum Crisis, cyberpunk action with great animation.

Record of Lodoss war, for your fantasy fix, the series or the ova, both are good.

Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!, hilarious fantasy comedy about a boy that gets killed and end up in a fantasy rpg cliche world with the goddess that brought him there.

FLCL, comedy gold.

Gunbuster, gainax awesome animation in this mecha sci-fi ova.

Just a few of my recomendations
