[MIL-CD] Hang the DJ

But First a little explanation about Mil-CDS

Spoiler

Mil-CD (Music Interactive Live-CD, 見るCD) was a compact disc storage format created by Sega in 1998 to add multimedia features to normal CDs for use on the Sega Dreamcast.

Mil-CD was envisoned as an enhanced format for music, but with no major record labels willing to back the format, only eight Mil-CD albums were released, all of which were exclusive to Japan. However, the Mil-CD technology became (in)famous for other reasons, as its lack of security allowed the format to be exploited, paving the way for unlicensed software to boot on the Dreamcast console, and by extension, opening a market for software piracy.

While burning entire games en masse to GD-ROMs was (and still is) unfeasible for unlicensed Dreamcast developers, Dreamcasts supporting Mil-CD discs can boot code from commonly found CD-Rs. Often by compressing (or removing) audio tracks from the game, a typical Dreamcast game can be stored on a CD-R with relative ease.

To combat piracy, while acknowledging the failure of the Mil-CD format, Sega removed Mil-CD support from later Dreamcast models. Mil-CD support is not immediately obvious, however systems manufactured after November 2000 (distinguishable both by the barcode and the use of "Sega Corporation" as a company name (which coincidentally became official on November 1st) generally lack Mil-CD support.

Hang the DJ is a Mil-CD single. It features two songs from the 1998 documentary film Hang the DJ.

Good idea, I'll have a go and if get a cdi or gdi I'll tell you how. It's been a while since I converted anything but I know it is possible because I've done it before.

Nope, converting to gdi did not work

these must be those fancy ass redump bin/cues. Such a pain in my butt. It's nice to have the uploads but if I am able I'll re-up non-redump versions.

I can listen to the music but can't play them as they should be played. I suspect that's why the MIL contents are unknown. I'm after 'em.

I couldn't get these to play in anything. Any advice, anyone?

hey gator, use flycast, and load the cue file, at least it works to see the media content. and i know how to extract the multimedia track, here the steps:

1.- mount the .cue file with daemon tools.
2.- Download and install ISOBUSTER.
3.- open isobuster, drop in the cue file, righ-click on the cd, extract cd imagen, as raw.image.png.3481b76d72a8a6b6ee9700ac94ba9ae6.png
4.-when saving the cd, change iso to bin file, and then save the cue, thrust me we are making a bin cue again.
5.- open the new cue file with ultraiso and were see the multimedia files in there

But the thing is, neither 1milsfd.bin, or 2milpass.bin works for me, i made a custom ip pointing them to those bin, but they dont boot the video, the videos are in the softdec folder and the files are VIDTRK01.SFD or more, maybe u can do something with them.

You used Bootdreams or Lazyboot?

I assume the SFDs/video are in the binary so it might be hard to get them out.

I didn't actually even try to crack it when I converted it. I'll have a go. It'd be cool if we could get the videos or whatever else is in there in a format that works well with GDEmu and Dreamshell for those users.

Also, I'll give burning a go and see what's on there on my Dreamcast. Worst comes to worst we can capture the video and make a multimedia disc with the stuff on the discs running on fuzz or dcm or some such similar DC multimedia tool. I have an elgato capture device so I should be able to get the videos in decent quality if I have to go the way with it.

Great advice, thanks.

since i got the source videos, i'm converting them into playable formats like mpg avi or mp4, i'm uploading them into my youtube channel, and making a compilation with the audio tracks and the videos, gonna post them eventually here in ngr.
